Try to find an old grand or one where the strings are rusted or corroded but the pinblock is still good. You can treat the pinblock with varnish or thinned out wood epoxy and restring with 3/0 or 4/0 pins. Restringing is a major undertaking in itself and so is installing a pinblock. It will be better to tackle these procedures one at a time. If you can install 230 or so strings and get each coil neat and even, you will be able to replace broken strings on any piano any time after that. It will be a very satisfying experience to lay on that last bass string and chip it up to pitch then stand back and admire your accomplishment. Regards, Bill Bremmer RPT Madison, Wisconsin
