In a message dated 98-03-18 11:15:50 EST, you write: << Sorry, Tom, you've got it backwards. The purpose of a temperament/tuning is to serve the needs of the pianist, not the other way around. A pianist who knows what he's doing should NOT be wasting his time trying to alter his style of playing--ie touch, tempo, interpretation, voice-leading, dynamic range, etc--in an effort to make THE TUNING LOOK GOOD. >> Sorry Les, you've got it backwards. Pianists who learn to play in ET learn to play music that has certain nuances built in with those features all removed. On the contrary, the ET player has learned an altered style, many of the original subtle styles such as rollong chords and embellishments along with strict adherence to dynamic markings have long been forgotten. Today, if you want to make it sound better in ET, all you have to do is play louder and faster. Nobody ever said that the HT's would not present a challenge. If what you want is the easy way through and out, choose ET. Bill Bremmer RPT Madison, Wisconsin
