restringing

If I recall correctly, you wanted to know the length to make
the tie-off from the winding allowing for stretch. When I
order a string from measuring off existing wire, I allow 1/8"
at the back and 1/4" at the front. (or was it 3/8?).

So, in answer to your question, good luck.

I succussfully made a splice on the back of A1 after a couple
tries. Tricky.

Measure the speaking length, measure the wrap length.
Using the above 'stretch factor', place the tie-off where the
winding will end up within hopefully equdistant ends.

New England Piano String (formerly Tuner's - Sal) said that
everyone uses pre-made tie-offs where they can make them
to size. They are pretty good strings but do not have the
qualities of GC (whose do).
