Swollen key leads

 This is to reiterate what one of our colleagues has already said:   the
quickest and safest way I have found to trim down swollen key leads is a
sharp chisel.   Just slice 'em off clean, no lead dust to deal with.
The lead slices easily.

   Can anyone tell me what makes the leads swell--I always thought of
lead as stable, inert,  and not prone to corrosion.
