I just pitchraised and tuned a very nice old 1908 Schubert. Huge thing with 
steel back posts, weighed a ton. Very pleasing tone and good action, still. 
So, the old ones are fine, but that doesn't mean the newer ones would be. 
They seem to have been taken over by Lester later on, at an unknown date.
