Hi everyone! Yesterday I posted some graphs of temperaments that all reflected the well- tempered (bell shaped curve) style. Today, let's take a peek at what people are talking about with all the meantones. Wm. Hawkes 1/6 from 1808: Remember, these are graphs of the width from pure of each major third, in circle of fifths order. Note listed is the bottom note. ET is 13.7 cents wide of pure. pure........................ET........... C :...........* G :...........* D :...........* A :...........* E :...........* B :.......................................................* F#:.......................................................* Db:.......................................................* Ab:.......................................................* Eb:...........* Bb:...........* F :...........* C :...........* Kindof like ET, with a big hiccup! Instead of varying amounts of key color, this tuning syle maximized the pure thirds (fifths too) in many keys at the expense of a few. Obviously, the numbers can be adjusted to lesson the contrast between pure and rough sounding intervals. Happy tuning!
