Mark,

It just occurred to me while following this thread that Dale's comments and
your most recent post regarding the bookshelves have triggered another
valid possibility.

Whatever marks that exist could have been made at another time and been
there well prior to your service call.  Only because of the work performed
was attention brought to that area of the house.

Pesonally, I wouldn't allow an assumption you are at fault in this matter
to be the initial issue.  It seems to me that the first order of business
would be to visit the site and examine the reported marks in the floor as
requested by the customer with the same prudence you have demonstrated thus
far.
