Building a Shop

With all these super ideas going into your shop, just remember a couple more
things:

1) Since it is a piano shop, if you ever want to use go-bars to glue in a
soundboard, make sure you have the beams so it doesn't raise the roof!

2) Put the lights on a different circuit than the power tool outlets. That
way if you cut a body part off, or the cord, or at least you won't be
standing there in the dark.

3) Make sure you have a good bolt and beam to support a heist for piano
plates.

4) Have emergency lights that function when there is no power (even if only
for a few minutes) so if there is a power failure you can at least find the
exit. Many times in shop work, there will be "stuff" blocking your path in
the dark.

5) Make sure from the beginning you have smoke detectors, fire extinguisher
and a water alarm if the building is equipped with plumbing. Will a fire
alarm go off if you are not there?

Unfortunately, many piano technicians have learned these things the hard
way!

Good Luck!
