This is not a great piano and the = project requires keeping costs to a reasonable minimum. The tenor = bridge has more than adequate bearing down to about note 35, then the = bridge starts to dive a bit so that the bottom of the tenor bridge has = minimal bearing except when you factor in the tied string problem. The = board has minimal crown. The bass bridge already has way too much = bearing and I'm building up the rest area in front of the hitch pin by a = fair amount to offset this. I don't really want to reset the plate if I = don't have to. So, as I stated in my post to Jon Page's response. = What is the better compromise. I would like to see a bit of string bearing down there. Be sure = you don't overload the bass bridge, though. Del ----- Original Message -----=20 From: David Love=20 To: Pianotech=20 Sent: June 16, 2002 12:04 PM Subject: Single Strings and bearing I'm adding some single strings (6) to the lower part of the tenor = section of a piano to smooth out the scaling. The bearing is minimal at = the bottom of the tenor bridge and the singles with their wrap actually = put those strings slightly negative. Would you be concerned about those = singles and therefore opt to compromise the scaling and omit them = keeping a no singles pattern? Or will they likely not be a problem = since they won't change the overall pressure on the bridge that much. =20 David Love ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
