I used to use the Dremel with the circular saw too, and even had a clamp for 
the shanks. (They have stopped making them. (I guess too may people were 
cutting off their fingers for it to be safe.)  

Now I do it the long, but safe and efficient way. After hanging the hammers, 
I take each hammer and shank off the stack one at a time, and cut the shank 
off with a band saw. It might take a little longer, but I know I will get a 
good clean cut, without damaging the centers.
