If you're reasonably sure the Lego set will eventually arrive, I recommend 
an appropriately sized and lidded empty box with diversionary gift and a 
note inside saying "This is a magic box. Watch this space, check it every 
morning when you get up. Goodies sometime appear in here." Then leave an 
occasional couple of M&Ms or other small surprises until one morning he 
looks in and finds the Lego set with a note that the box's mission is 
complete, and it has deactivated until further notice. I'll check back with 
you when he's thirty to see if he still has the box.

Now you've done it. He'll be suing the North Pole under the Santa Clause as 
soon as he sees that Lego logo. Or the M&Ms might be enough all by themselves.
