Even in my few = short years in this business, I have run across numerous high-end pianos = with key Balance Weights that are all over the place. The keyboard = likely measured out just fine the day it was built, but when some clown = comes along and evens out friction and regulates the piano nicely - = watch out! Heaven forbid if someone puts new hammers on - even worse, if = they even out the Strike Weights! One of the first actions I worked on was a "nice" Baldwin R 90 year old = action. Just trying to understand how an action worked, I placed weights = on top of the capstans to balance the keys on their fulcrum. I was = amazed and dumbfounded when keys that were right next to one another = required significantly differing amounts of weight to balance......... = Duuuuhhhhhh!
