To look at a comparison, check out the Verituner site.  Dave spent a bunch 
of time with two pianos, charting the measured inharmonicity of each note, 
then with a spreadsheet that calculates beatrates of different octaves, 
plugged in the numbers with the calculations of the different machines.

Even though you may not have noticed much difference in the spinner/lights, 
those differences could easily be over a cent, enough to make an octave 
work, or just kinda work.
