Ed:

The newest Steinways (Kluge keyboards) are 48.375" from A0 - C8. The
ones from the 1980s were 48.0" The Yamahas I have seen tend to be
about 48.25". There definitely is a difference and I've seen nothing
of a "standard". We had an old Hamburg "O" that was 48.500".
Baldwins tend to be pretty much 48.0. We have a Mason & Hamlin CC
here that has keys that are shorter from front to back. I don't
recall the actual numbers, but they are shorter. One would think
that there would be a "standard" but alas there is none.

The American Guild of Organists at one time had some specifications
for the pedal board. Widths, a concave layout etc. Our newest organ
at SMU has a flat pedal board (like the Europeans). Creative people
tend to avoid "standards"!!!
