damper problem (probably just stupidity on my part)

Time does sometimes heal this problem.  But before time has passed us  by, 
have you leveled the strings?  I would bet this is at least part of the  
problem.  Do you have full contact along the length of the damper?   Have you 
stiffened the springs?
