Baldwin grand with a curved-top fallboard Tuned the piano Got called a week later: "Keys in the middle of the piano feel funny and there's this clacking noise. Hmmm Arrived at customer's home Left about 10 minutes later, laughing (as was the customer) and with a $20 bill in my hand. Seems the 2-year-old had lined up about a dozen thin wooden alphabet blocks--about 3" x 3" x 3/8"--on the fallboard, then opened the thing. Those blocks slid down on top of the key sticks in a nice, neat row from about C3 to D5! They actually added very little to the perceptible weight of the keys and made only occasional and very soft noises. But the 10-year-old (darned good) pianist noticed them, right off. On the other end, I once left a pretty heavy pair of needle nose pliers on the upper bass keys of a Hamilton Studio in a little country church. Found the tool when I tuned it again about 8 months later. That piano is played very enthusiastically every Sunday and Wednesday but they never noticed! Go figure. If you have to have a callback, it should always be something simple and not-your-fault ... like my "clickety-clack callback." Alan R. Barnard Salem, MO --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
