You may do a search on Google for Jpeg Optimizer or Image Optimizer which
will give you a variety of softwares that will compress a 500Kb picture to a
50 or even 20Kb picture.  I bought one from http://www.xat.com that works
like a charm.  Using it allows your web pages to load pics in no time at all
and quality is not sufficiently degraded to worry about.  I use it on almost
everything except my archive copies.
