Hi Carl,

<<Although I'm sure I have a screw like that, I think the threads in the =
wood must be damaged. I like the threaded insert approach. The trick =
is to install the insert perpendicular to the surface. I think I would =
use 3/8, sink the insert rather deep with an Allen wrench and use =
machine screws. You could use the lyre as a template to drill. Photo =
attached.>>

Cool insert! Where do you get those things? Home Depot? Some =
specialty supply?

I checked the threading, and nothing seems to be damaged. It happened =
because some genius put the screw back into the hole after removing the =
lyre and then put a moving blanket over the whole thing. Naturally =
someone grabbed/shoved it, and it bent right over. Even so, the wood =
seems fine. If you have a screw like this one lying around, it would =
save me from having to retrofit a machine screw or resort to a lag. ;-)

Ron, I had thought about the lag screw thing (including chucking the =
thing and lathing the head round), but it would have the wrong thread =
pitch (perhaps 10 tpi?). I could go to a 3/8" lag, of course. I just =
hate to do that. A threaded insert seems more elegant a solution, if I =
have to go that route.

Thanks, all! :-)

Peace,
Sarah
