If the pins are tight, you can back the pins off 3/4 turn, remove the 
strings and
install a new wire (using a dummy pin to make the new coil). I restrung an old
Chickering this past winter this way. it was on a previous rebuild 
where they had
placed balance rail punchings under the wire at the hitch pins; 
corrosion formed
breaking strings constantly.
