Or you can inform the caller that you are a business and that you have a charge
for telephone time. My current rate is $110/hr and is billed in quarter-hour
increments with a half-hour minimum. Would the caller please furnish billing
address and authorization and you will talk with them as long as they would
like.... It takes about 20 seconds and they hang up.
 
But, in answer to Joe's question -- yes, the Don't Call List works. I've gotten
no telemarketing calls since registering. But, remember, political organizations
and non-profit groups are exempt. They can keep calling. And, if your phone is
listed as a business phone they can keep calling. (Hence the above.)

Does it cost anything for that service?  I actually just switched telephone
numbers for that very reason.  I usually tell the person that we are having a
family crisis.  My mother-in-law just passed on, and sound very upset and start
crying, then they go away.  But it still gets old.
