I've subscribed to this magazine and to the web archives for years and consider it and its tool guides and reviews the best available on the planet. There are two primary issues affecting the performance of any drill press - the quality of the chuck (believe it or not) and the quality of the drive belts. Aside from that, make sure your press is plumb, square and level and off ya go. I have a Jet 17.5" press with an add-on, high quality aerospace chuck and, right out of the box, I switched their normal belts for the link type red v-belts. Yep, ready for NASA . . . Good luck.
