Women and Tuning

Hi Michelle,

When I first started tuning, my dad asked that I carry a small ice pick in
my tool kit. It was five inches long and *very* sharp. After a while I got
tired of seeing it in my kit and it now lives in a drawer somewhere in my
shop. I've never had a problem in 15 years. Most people don't go hunting
for a piano tuner if all they want is trouble! Actually, real estate agents
are at a far greater risk.

I had one instance, when arriving at an address, I took a look at the house
(and the surrounding neighborhood) and kept driving. I called the customer
to apologize for a scheduling conflict and to suggest that she call someone
listed closer to her area.

If you're nervous...carry your car key in your pocket for quick access,
carry a cell phone, leave a copy of your tuning schedule (with addresses and
phone numbers) next to your phone (or where it is readily visible) at home.
Dress appropriately, and act professional.

Debbie
