hitch pin glitch

Hey Now,

Greetings from beautiful sunny southern cal. air 80 water temp 65 surfs up life is good.

I hate to start a big controversy and or be accused of being inexperienced amateur by the captain of the tool police. I ask the group to consider this possibility. If every time you increase the tension of the string in question the result is the hitch pin moving toward the pianist (or tech), this would cause the string to drag across the capo bar. Eventually could this weaken the string in the capo area? Sorta like dragging a piece of string over a sharp edge, it will break after a couple of pulls. If the capo bar at contact point is a little rough or sharp it seems to me that it could certainly cause the string to break. This would seem to be at least possible especially at C8.

I can relate, this happened to me once on an old clunker. You get the string on and pull it up to pitch and it immediately falls. After two or three try's the string actually climbed up over the bent hitch pin. At that point I finally noticed....oh man what do I do now. I can't imagine how it must have felt on a relatively new Steinway.

C-ya

Steve
