Hello List

The Banff Centre is looking for a qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant Piano Technician.  The job title may be somewhat misleading; jobs with this title at some institutions often involve practice-room tuning and not much more.  However, the duties associated with this position are varied and rewarding.  The successful candidate must have significant concert and rebuilding experience.  Teaching/mentoring is also an important component of the job.

For more information on the position and how to apply, go to
http://tbe.taleo.net/NA3/ats/careers/requisition.jsp?org=BANFFCENTRE&cws=1&rid=713

Or, if copying and pasting that URL doesn't work, go to www.banffcentre.ca and follow the links.

A few things to note:  1. Although the physical surroundings in Banff are beautiful, and great skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities are right on your doorstep, finding adequate housing can be very difficult.  And said housing can be rather expensive.  Most newcomers to the area start off with a less-than-ideal housing situation and search for something better once they are here.  2. The Music & Sound staff are a great group of people to work with; the working atmosphere is very co-operative.  3. The piano inventory is aging, but quite serviceable.  4. The users of the pianos are mostly accomplished or emerging artists, not undergrad-level students.  They are generally quite respectful of the instruments, and appreciative of high-quality service.  5. Non-Canadians are welcome to apply for this position.

Thanks,
Albert Picknell
Head Piano Technician,
The Banff Centre
