Hi Dean

Don't mean to butt in here.. Just want to point out that it seems like 
you are mixing two very closely related subject areas.  The one is the 
degree of stiffness and the degree of mass in both the treble and the 
bass regions...   the other is the actual ratio of stiffness to mass in 
each area. It is this last you seem to be getting tripped up on. The 
rest of what you have stated seems pretty much in line with what I 
understand Del to be saying.

    The analog is either the tapering of the panel near the edges,
    tapering the
    ribs near the rim, routing a groove around the perimeter, or
    floating it, or
    perhaps some other yet unknown process.
