It cuts the felt fine.   I've had a Spurlock tapering jig that I never used because I 
  don't like working with the bench saw that much. I thought of using the Wagner 
  Safe-T-Planer. So I made a simple crude prototype of a jig. I tried it and it 
  works very nicely. It is simple, less noisy than the saw and I fear it less. 
  Here are some pictures. I don't know if a lot of you have this tool, but I
