David, thanks for that information. I didn't know about the number 3 with
Piers. I shall see him next week. I spent a week with him in February
recording 2 concerti and I am a great fan on his work. I also know that
Piers has links to Steinway and Fazioli on his website.
Look for the Angela Hewitt's Bach concerti with the Australian Chamber
Orchestra. I don't know the record label though. I hear the recordings on
our ABC Classic FM ( www.abc.net.au/classic )here in Australia, but I don't
own the CD's. This recording was on a Fazioli F278 from The Sydney Town
Hall.
Back to Demidenko cd. I first bought the CD number 1 after hearing it being
played and plugged on ABC Classics. I was so impressed with the sound. After
hearing that I had to buy number 2 and I found that the piano was a Faz. I
was a little disappointed in the sound however a friend who worked in the
recording industry in the UK and is now here in Brisbane told me that the
music isn't as big as the first cd. How is Piers' cd and could you tell me
the piano technician (if it is in the notes as no 2 tech is not listed)
Nikolai was here in Brisbane 2 years ago playing Prokieff (sorry) 3. I tuned
the rehearsal pianos and I mean plural so that he could go from 1 piano to
the other. He completely destroyed the piano in the first movement during
the performance and I am so glad it wasn't my work as I was sitting in the
audience. Amazing performance however the piano didn't stand up to him.
Thank you for this off topic discussion. It is great to discuss music and
pianists. Does Piers get up your way? Now do you claim Piers to be English,
or do you think he is Australian?
BTW I just looked up Piers' website.... we have to buy more Bach
Transcriptions... they are up to 7.
Best wishes
Brian

Oh that's interesting Brian. Thanks for the information about the
Demidenko CD.

I have number 3 in the Bach transcriptions series, played by Piers Lane,
but that's on a Steinway. I've also got the Hyperion Bach Arrangements
with Angela Hewitt, also on Steiway, before she moved to her Fazioli. I
also have No 2 in Hewitt's Hyperion Beethoven and somehow I can't warm to
it, but I don't know if it's the piano or not.

I'd like to do a shameless and off-topic plug for Hyperion Records here.
www.hyperion-records.co.uk

The quality of their productions is very high, always well-recorded and
always with superb notes in the booklet.

Also, in teaching a law unit I was covering copyright and Hyperion had an
interesting case (google Hyperion Sawkins Copyright). I emailed Hyperion
to ask permision to reproduce in student notes an online article by one of
their staff, and within two hours Mr Perry himself, founder of the
company, personally replied with gracious permission.

Best wishes,

David.
