Ron: Is it just possible that you could write a reply without being snarky? Are you suffering from PDD (Personality Deficit Disorder)? It is fine to share your knowledge about the appropriate math behind Thumpe's question, but why does the put-down have to come along for the ride? If you believe that your intellect and deeper knowledge excludes you from the expectations of basic courtesy that is implicitly asked of the rest of us, please be informed that it does not. No one is excused from acting like a human being, no matter how exalted their self-image. Astonishing as it seems, some of us don't rely on belief. It's a matter of doing the math on the bearing load and friction differences between a 1° or less downbearing on the bridge top and the two 10° or so bearing and friction loads at the bridge pins. Making an attempt to actually quantify these forces indicates to me that bridge cap friction is comparatively inconsequential. The visual aspect is certainly real for notching, but it needn't be a lubricant. Ron N
