Measure to the bottom of the rail to make sure the screw will not try to
penetrate the brass.  I remember having now problems with that.

What is far more important is the location of the center pin!!!  Double
check to make sure the new ones don't change your action setup.

Washers on a Steinway?  Oh Horrors!!  Such hearsay!  Or is that heresy?

If it works for you then go ahead.  So long as the head will slip under
the pin block. :)
