This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Hello, I see that part in need of tension (rebound is adbsorbing part of the wooden noises), not much softness, the fluff add friction, but I had good result polishing the capstan (and "cleaning" or "activating" the whippen cloth a tad) with a felt wedge inserted at that place (action in the piano). I don't trust much the damp iron treatment, while I use it on recent cushion after brushing them (with a soft brush) follow with a dry iron. It is not that long to change the cloth if worn (hot hide glue is necessary) Needling it is useless in my opinion (like anything that destroy the material). Cloth quality may be the best available. That part is one of the most important part in a grand action, for its firmness, shape, cloth and even density of the wood. Best regards. (follow-up with a dry-warm pressing with the iron) I also recommend bolstering wippen heels if possible/necessary with bushing cloth, if they don't have this already. Anything that restores the charactristics of a new well-made part, and lasts, is worth a try! Mark Cramer, Brandon University Another thing I do with wippen cushions is remove the black residue with a brass brush, the ones you use when soldering brass pipe. It fluffs up the felt a little. I will then also use a voicing needles to "voice" the cushion to soften them even more. Wim ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
