an easy fix? (blind) humidifier filling

I always thought, that it took one of the filling containers, once the light
started flashing.
In the new ones, there is a mark on the can indicating how high to fill it,
then you just add it when the light flashes. That lasts till the next time.
That is what the instructions say.
I can't see the supposed to be problem either.
