[CAUT] sos. woes

Today I received a new replacement sost. rod for an M. It measures 11.2mm
across the broad plane of the rod.
The 1913 rod I'm replacing is 12.6mm. The new rod is solid brass, and could
be machined to be even a little bit narrower.
Is there room to make new pivot blocks and move the tray further back?
