The employee will pay roughly 25-30% of the gross salary for benefits. Considering that that gross salary is roughly half of what a tuner can make doing private work, the cost of those benefits actually becomes 63-65%. That doesn't include tax incentives the private tuner has that the employee does not. When times are tough, you need take-home pay, not benefits you aren't using.
