Soak'em. mix up a batch of 4:1 and simply drench them until there is liquid running down the tails. If it is possible to dip them in a bucket of it, try that. Wait a few days,at least, and then listen to them. If you are lucky, they will sound like glass, then you will probably have to kill the outer surface of the strike point to take the metallic sound out. If that doesn't get you where you want to go, then ditch them.
