String leveling redux

Although a rank amateur, I attempt to maintain my S&S D myself and will tackle
anything my RPT suggests. This string-leveling topic, however, is new to me,
and I have read every posting with interest, printing off most of them for fu-
ture reference.

I think I know how to test for level strings, but if I find some not level, how
do I correct them? What exactly does one do to make them level?
