Una corda and dampers

Hi Victor:

You may be experiencing something which is quite normal especially for
flat dampers.

With the hammer hitting only two strings when the shift pedal is depressed,
the unstruck string holds the damper up for half of the string's up and
down cycle therefore making the dampers only half as efficient. This is
why some Manufacturers such as Bosendorffer do not allow the shift to
miss the left string, but depend upon the softer portion of the hammers
between the string grooves to give a softer sound instead of the shifting
to completely miss the left string.
