Harpsichord string loop question

Hi,

Is it typical for a harpsichord string's loop, down at the hitch pin, to
often or sometimes come loose?

I now have the dubious duty of working on a harpsichord and some of the
loop are slowly coming loose, so that the string eventually comes off the
hitch pin.

I say dubious, not as any badmouthing of harpsichords, just dubious because
I do not have harpsichord skills and ain't looking forward to learning.-}

So, I am wondering if this is a common thing to happen or perhaps the
original loops were not securely constructed? Does this mean that the
harpsichord should be restrung? How often do they need restringing?

Thanks for any tips.
