Hey Paul,
I was told to shave them, then seal them with something like a sanding
sealer or varnish, or polyurethane. That seals the lead. I was told it was
the lead, not the wood. Even if it is the wood, sealing it in the area would
minimize recurrence.
Also, Bill Spurlock has a handout that he sends along with his gram weight
set. (he may also sell it separately - cheap) and it has an excellent
explanation of the procedure along with weight considerations. Tools, jigs,

I would like to know the best way to replace key leads. I have come
upon a Wurlitzer grand that has leads which have swelled and rub against
the neighbors. I don't want to shave them off, as I know they will just
continue to swell. I would like to know what sort of tools I would need
