Hey Paul, I was told to shave them, then seal them with something like a sanding sealer or varnish, or polyurethane. That seals the lead. I was told it was the lead, not the wood. Even if it is the wood, sealing it in the area would minimize recurrence. Also, Bill Spurlock has a handout that he sends along with his gram weight set. (he may also sell it separately - cheap) and it has an excellent explanation of the procedure along with weight considerations. Tools, jigs, etc. Good luck, Lance Lafargue, RPT Mandeville, LA New Orleans Chapter, PTG lancelafargue@bellsouth.net -----Original Message----- From: owner-pianotech@ptg.org [mailto:owner-pianotech@ptg.org]On Behalf Of Paul McCloud Sent: Monday, January 22, 2001 9:36 PM To: Piano Tuning Guild Subject: Replacing Key Leads I would like to know the best way to replace key leads. I have come upon a Wurlitzer grand that has leads which have swelled and rub against the neighbors. I don't want to shave them off, as I know they will just continue to swell. I would like to know what sort of tools I would need to remove the leads without breaking the keysticks. Thanks Paul McCloud San Diego -- mailto:smccloud@ix.netcom.com
