I did one of these a year or so ago. The fact that Kawai has a technical bulletin about it clearly indicates that it is a recurring problem and that they are aware of it. In my case the piano was in a Baptist church downtown. This piano got beat on. The only reason the sustain pedal was still attached was because the floor stopped its downward motion. You ask how did the floor do this? Well, the lyre rested right on the floor tightly. You ask how was it the lyre was resting on the floor? Well, the two front legs had been pounded through the stage floor, and the lyre was the only thing holding up the front half of the piano. Fortunately, the piano had spade legs, so the legs were kinda wedged into the floor and prevented too much side-to-side motion. Here's to pianos that get used!
