Carl,
the mismatch of the threads is intentional so that you will purchase =
only their tool parts.
Got that info directly from the horses mouth. They would like no =
competition

  Subject: Tuning levers

There were several posts about tuning levers recently.
  =20
I've found that using a 6 dollar shaft from Shaff number 16R. Then =
using a very hard super ball and epoxying it onto a 1/4 inch x 2 inch =
long brass nipple available at the plumbing store. (Drill a suitable =
hole in it with a hole saw or a sharpened steel tube.). Then use a 1/8 =
x1/4 reducer and attach to the end of the shaft. I found that some =
heads would bottom out or not fit properly. There must be a conflict =
between brands that are threaded either too much or too little. So I =
cut off about 1/4 inch of the shaft and chased the threads with a die.

The slight give of the hard ball gives it a good feel. =20
I'm looking for just the right ball that is firm but has enough give =
to protect the hand. I don't do much tuning but some have complained of =
hand problems so this might help. I'll let you know if I find just the =
right ball.
