In a word, yes.

A little lower letoff and you loose power and control.  A little high and
you risk blocking.  Letoff can be tapered, 3 mm in the bass and 1.5 in the
treble and those can be reduced by .5 mm for one concert but varying letoff
is one of the last things that should be done.

Variables can be:
	level
	dip
	blow
	jack position
	
and any one of them but a little bit.  Consistency is the critical element.
