Newton:

A third possible cause could be (although the remotest of the bunch) that 
there is overbearing on the bridge with a partially collapsed soundboard 
underneath in the upper half. Everytime a section is brought up to pitch, the 
overcompression on the bridge causes more collapse of the board. Just another 
possiblity.
