TP bushings: was pinblock hole alignment

Recently, I did a floor tuning on a Chickering Grand.  There was quite a bit 
of flex in the pins and I thought that one of the factors (besides lousy 
tuning pins) might be the lack of bushings.  In other words, would plate 
bushings provide extra stability in the pins themselves rather than provide 
tuning stability?  Anybody?
