Hi Bill,
If this is on F3 or C5 use the closest string that will give a good reading
and take the measurement down or up to the F or C that you have chosen to
enter.
ie use a reading on C#5 that is clear and step down to C5 and enter.
Sometimes using my brass rod will settle the strings false beats quick as
using a different note as it can be used on uprights without the removal of
the action.
Becuase it is so thin you can pass the end of the rod past the dampers down
far enough to seat the string on the bridge.
