Hi Calin,
You buy, or make plugs from pinblock material. They are 1/2' plugs.
Plugs can be purchased from, Allied Piano/Webb Phillips & Associates.
They work best on an open face pinblock. If the plate is still on, you =
would have to use the smaller 3/8" plugs.
In case of an overlap, drill every other hole and epoxy the plugs in =
place. Be sure and score a line on the side, of the plug, so the air or =
excess glue can escape.
When these plugs are installed, drill out the others, and in some cases =
you may have an overlap, with the previously installed plug. Then plug =
the remainder.
To make the job look nicer, on an openface block, sand off the top, and =
glue on a piece of veneer.
Then you just drill for the size pins you are going to use, using the =
template, I forgot to tell you to make first.
Any questions, just ask.
Best regards,
John M. Ross
Windsor, Nova Scotia.

  Hello!

How exactly do you proceed with plugging a pinblock?
I have an old grand without a cast iron plate which has some cracks in =
the pinblock. Changing it with a new one would be very complicated, as =
it seems to be embedded into the sides of the case and also has the =
string terminations on it (with bridge pins - this piano has no =
agraffes).

  Thanks,=20

Good sugestion. Alan, just unscrew the block segments ,take =
them to the drill pressand bore for 1/2 inch plugs and rebore. Install =
plugs and screw back in place. Easier said than done but a good option.
