Upright Lid Removal

Dear Terry,
My old Knabes have lids with the screw/keyed slot
arrangement, and I sure wish I had known the first
time I tried removing one!!! But my 1899 M&H (#5)
upright had the lid rear GLUED to the block! Sorry.
And I have only taken the sides off a piano once,
with a big, long "floor scraping" chisel, driven in
from underneath with a sledge while the piano was on a
tilter. Came off clean enough to glue back on, but I
vowed that ( if I ever did this again ) I would drill
some 1/2" holes directly and perpendicularly into the
back/sides glue line from the rear, to insert dowell
sections to act as "keys" in the re-gluing process, to
keep stuff from sliding all over the place!
Hope this helps! Certainly would like to hear
from others who have done this, regarding their
particular methods!!!
     Thump
