I think some of the complaints about "OT" have been from people who are having a difficult time managing their emails. I offer the following suggestions:

1. Have a separate email address that you use ONLY for a particualar list. There are so many free email services out there that this is not a problem. This way you do not have to sort your important personal emails from the gobs of list emails.

2. Some freemail services offer free filtering others do not. Hotmail does, Yahoo doesn't( you have to pay extra for the service). The filters will remove any emails that have certain words in the subject windows.

3. You can always download the raw archive and organize by topic. Then you can easily avoid topics that bug you.

This should make your life easier! Instead of trying to change people's posting habits (impossible!) you can proactively cure the problem yourself.

I for one enjoy hearing technicians opinions on all sorts of topics. We are an interesting cross-section of society; Why try to censor the list when there are simple tools available that can get you what you want?
