Carmen,

I've found that people are most receptive on Friday evenings after a glass or 
two of vino.  Like you and Tom, I avoid calling after 9:00.  Talking to the 
woman of the  house is usually more fruitful than talking to the husband(or the 
children, or the answering machine), as they are more often than not the 
general manager and are likely to be the ones in control of the home calendar.  

I get pretty good results in the pre-dinner hours on weekends as well.
