I am reading with some interest the opinions of this proposal. Both sides of the discussion make sense and I lean neither way. I have included a few OT's in my day and will probably continue to do so in the future. While my OT's usually revolve around a personal 'dig' at a particular technician(My buddy Roger comes to mind!), I think it's the lack of piano-content posts that are guiding the ECC to propose and perhaps impliment this way of posting. No one should be offended or insulted by this proposal - it is just a way for those people who wish to read ONLY piano-related posts a way to do that without having to, in their mind, sift through the 'garbage' that's not piano-related. When someone says this proposal is a waste of energy(I forget who and I'm NOT singling out anyone here), I say: Is it YOUR energy that's being wasted? Probably not, and that person will probably not volunteer to the ECC to waste their energy. Human nature being what it is, especially in a close-knit community such as ours, I will always find it fascinating that some people seem to 'need' to be front and center of the class, with personal, non-piano-related posts that are not relevant(in most cases) and not tolerated by the majority of the class. If that were me, I'd be hiding my head in the sand hoping for forgiveness from the rest of the class. Fortunately for all of you, you're not me..hence the proposal for moderation. I will make a bet if the moderated list goes through and proves to be a viable outlet for the majority(90% or better), the regular pianotech list will go the way of the dinosaur, or the posters of the really OT stuff will go..but that's the human nature part of it..they probably won't go away. The only way a list-abuser stays around is if that abuser feels they have an audience, and from what I have read over the years on this list, there's a full house of opinions. Human nature is a wonderful thing to observe and be a part of. Phil Bondi(Fl)
