You CAN get to the PTG web site and the pictures and other files there -
no membership required. Simply go to http://www.ptg.org/files . While
there is a member login available, you don't need it to access the
files. =20

Yes, David P - Please DO tell us if we can no longer attach image files
to our Postings!! I, for one, cannot access these images unless they are
appended to the Posting as I have no access to the PTG site. Apparently
I need a login "Name" and a "Password" and I have neither. I am the
great "nameless one" who shall be remembered for ever.... I'm off to
Verona on Saturday and then to Norfolk so I shall have to go "off-list"
pro tem. until September. Au revoir! Larevedere! Toodle-oo!

Regards

Michael G.(UK)

You give me too much credit. I probably should understand more
of the process than I do. When everything works seamlessly, it tends to
become the baseline. I've become oblivious to the effort that makes the
list work as well as it does. But perhaps you can explain this again.
You don't want image files to continue to be attached to individual
posts, is that correct? Would you mind looking over the last few days
of the list, at the posts containing images, such as the following
(there are others) and tell me what you are trying to have done
differently, and how that would affect such posts? =20

I know you=12ve been on the internet long enough to realize that
there are people who would take advantage of this place to post things.
If anyone could post to our server and have it show up immediately there
would be all kinds of spam, porn, etc. This then requires that we have
some responsible person look at and approve anything posted there. =20
	=20
Ron is doing all the approving at this moment until all the
systems are fully checked out. When the system is bullet proof, the
administrator on duty each week will be approving posts. However, on my
weeks, I=12ll not be checking at 1:12 AM to see if there is a picture
there that you want to see. I=12ll be sleeping and will check it in the
morning!
	=20
If you want to post a picture and have it immediately available
to the list, you can post it on your personal web page, put the URL in
your email and everyone will see it.. This accommodation that Ron has
created on the PTG server is for those of us who don=12t have readily
accessible web space and are willing to wait for the approval process.

	Ron -
I know there is a problem here you are trying to resolve, but
I'm not sure this is the answer. To quote from the instructions on the
ptg.org/files page:
=09
=09
=09
When a file is uploaded it sends an email to the moderator so it
should be approved or deleted within a day or two.=20
=09
Given the way graphics have become intrinsic to many of the
discussions here, such a delay seems to pose a significant obstacle to
the flow of ideas. For example, it's only 1:12 AM right now, and I
can't see the image of bent tuning pins Clark Sprague sent over an hour
ago. ( http://www.ptg.org/files_add.php)
<http://www.ptg.org/files_add.php)%A0%A0> Unless you're willing to
assign a surrogate, or junior monitor when you are not available, it
acts a bit like a curfew.=20
=09
Just an initial observation, though I'm glad to see you're
trying.

I want some of you who have files to share to try the files area
of the web=20
site. It gives you a place to upload files and create a
database entry for=20
searching the files that are there. =20
=09
	Go to http://www.ptg.org/files
The directions should be clear. I have set this up so that the
files are=20
uploaded to a staging area and I will act as moderator to be
sure they are=20
what they are supposed to be before uploading them to the public
area. =20
This area is open to the whole world so this is a necessary
precaution to=20
keep out spammers and others. =20
=09
I have set a limit of 2MB per file, this should be adequate for
most things. =20
You might resize pictures before you upload them since they will
be viewed=20
	onscreen. =20
=09
	Let's see how this works.
